  • adj. (Biologie) Se dit d'un messager chimique tel qu'une hormone ou une cytokine, qui exerce son action sur la cellule qui l'a produit.

    On parle de communication autocrine lorsqu'un signal agit sur la cellule qui lui a donné naissance ([…]). La cellule cible se confond, dans ce cas, avec la cellule émettrice du signal. Un tel mécanisme est parfois utilisé dans des processus d'amplification du signal quand celui-ci stimule sa propre production (rétroaction positive).
