Les espèces de ce genre ont un prothorax fort court avec des élytre presque ovales, chitineuses et fortement sillonnées qui recouvrent l'abdomen. Le fond est de couleur noire. Mesurant quelques millimètres de long, leur tête est ornée d'antennes ramifiées qui peuvent rappeler les cornes d'un cervidé. Juste derrière, le prothorax est compact et trapu. La partie postérieure du corps de l'insecte (appelé aussi mégastome) est relié à l'avant par un pétiole particulièrement fin.
