Et si les poissons osseux n'avaient pas acquis leur mâchoire, l'obtenant au contraire en héritage, comme le suggère le fossile d'un placoderme découvert en Chine ? Voilà qui chamboulerait l'histoire évolutive des vertébrés gnathostomes. Pour preuve, les chondrichthyens, le groupe des requins et des raies, ne figureraient plus parmi nos ancêtres. D'ailleurs, ils seraient bien plus évolués que ce que nous avons cru jusqu'à maintenant !
