…kelly pickler was not really “underrated among mainstream country”. her albums received commercial and critical acclaim, she was a media darling and had hits in the charts. however, she always had quite a few other things going on, thanks to her talent and her endearing personality. if anything, it was somewhat bad luck, that bro-country reigned, when she came up with rock solid traditonally leaning material. miss her too and would love to see her coming out of the dark and back.

Scientists filmed wild bearded capuchin monkeys in Brazil cracking open piassava nuts over the course of three days. Piassava nuts from palm trees are irregularly shaped and they have a tendency to roll around a bit if placed on a relatively flat surface. The monkeys were observed knocking the nuts several times against a hard surface before placing the nuts into shallow pits in a log. The placements were such that the nuts rarely wobbled or rolled away after placement. Once the nut was in place, the monkeys would then use stone hammers to crack open the nut.

"We noticed that plant leaves discolored yellow or pale green when their roots were parasitized by RKNs and confirmed a decrease in chlorophyll content in such leaves. We hypothesized that chloroplast-related compounds would accumulate in RKN-parasitized roots and induce the host defense against RKNs. We analyzed root metabolites and found accumulation of phytol, a constituent of chlorophyll. When phytol was applied to plant roots, RKN invasion of the roots was inhibited. This inhibition was not due to the direct nematicidal activity of phytol, since this compound did not kill RKNs," added Seo.

Perturbation of the second messenger homeostasis in the dark might lead to alterations in the photoresponse of the affected cells. To probe such potential variations, we simulated photoresponses from mouse rods expressing the same amounts of GCAPs investigated in the dark following the excitation of the phototransduction cascade by flashes of increasing intensity, from dim to saturating. The resulting dynamics of suppression of the dark current in a rod of a WT mouse and the respective cases for a heterozygous WT/E111V and a homozygous E111V/E111V-GCAP1 case are reported in Fig. 3a,b, respectively.

Nucleic acid chemistry has a long history. Indeed, Todd and coworkers initiated, in the early 1950s, an extensive study of nucleoside polyphosphates (e.g., ADP, ATP), which later led Gilham and Khorana to implement the use of carbodiimides or arenesulfonyl halides to facilitate esterification of P(V) oxidation level deoxyribonucleoside phosphomonoesters to their corresponding phosphodiester derivatives 2 and 3 (Scheme 1).

It was Lavoisier’s obsession with weighing the reactants and products of a reaction that really turned the phlogiston theory on its head. When a substance burned in air, he found, it increased in mass rather than decreased as phlogiston theory predicted. Lavoisier coined the term ’oxygen’ to describe the part of the air that combines with a combustible substance when it burns.

Phagocytosis has essential functions in immunity. Here we highlight the presence of a subcellular level of self–non-self discrimination in dendritic cells that operates at the level of individual phagosomes. We discuss how engagement of Toll-like receptor signaling controls distinct programs of phagosome maturation. An inducible mode of phagosome maturation triggered by these receptors ensures the selection of microbial antigens for presentation by major histocompatibility class II molecules during the simultaneous phagocytosis of self and non-self.
