• (Biochimie) Pigments biologiques présents chez certains insectes, arthropodes marins et céphalopodes, responsables de la coloration des yeux et de la peau. Les ommochromes, dérivant du tryptophane ou de la kynurénine, peuvent afficher des couleurs allant du noir au rouge.

  Ommochromes, les pigments qui colorent la peau des calmars et d'autres invertébrés, pourrait être employé dans la nourriture et les secteurs de la santé pour leurs propriétés antioxydantes et antimicrobiennes. Ceci est confirmé par les analyses effectuées par des chercheurs de l'université du Sonora au Mexique et de l'université de Miguel Hernández en Espagne.
