• "q" : se prononçait probablement à l'origine comme le "qaf" en arabe (occlusive post-palatale sourde emphatique). Il est réalisé en maltais en tant qu' arrêt glottal, comme dans certains dialectes du Moyen-Orient ("'alby" (mon cœur) au lieu de "qalby").
